Have a Kindle Christmas

It isn’t just the great Kindle 3G or Wi-Fi that you can give this Christmas.  If you have a loved one that is a bit of a book-worm you can have a truly Kindle themed holiday this year.

Of course, first up the device itself is one of the hottest gift items for 2010.  It’s hardly a surprise because these are now amongst the cheapest electronic readers, and some of the very best to boot.  You big decision will have to be which one to get of course, but just think about how they will be able to access the internet (with wi-fi or 3G) and your decision is pretty much made.  The 3rd Gen Kindles are identical in all other respects.

Now you can order a great case or cover to make their new ebook reader look even more stylish.   You can buy book-lights that will clip onto certain covers or buy a case that has its own light built in.  Covers that flip over into stands are great for those that enjoy reading over their morning cereal, and you can even buy waterproof covers for those that enjoy relaxing in the bath.

You can now gift ebooks themselves too.  Once you find a Kindle book you think your loved one will enjoy, simple select that you want to give it as a gift.  You will then be asked for the email address of the recipient.  Pop in the details and the new book will be sent electronically for you.  Don’t panic if they don’t like it, they can always exchange it for another, or a voucher to spend on whatever they fancy.

You could even compile a library of classics for nothing.  Browse out of copyright books online, and download in either unprotected .mobi or .azw files.  Copy the whole lot onto a disk or memory stick and give a while library of Kindle reading!

Of course, you can just play it safe and get a Kindle gift card instead of bothering with all this.  Whatever you choose it is sure likely to be a Kindle Christmas in many homes this year!

Choose A Screen Protector

Most of us find out that after purchasing that long awaited Kindle or other book reader, or the new Nintendo DS that like our cell phones there are accessories that are a necessary part of that purchase that aren’t included in the package. A case of some type, extra batteries and most of all an lcd screen protector. On most of these devices the screen is the most important part of the whole device and it need s to be protected or the device will soon be rather worthless. Any device that is interactive needs protection, as a stylus, over time will leave scratches. Those other objects that get used in place of the stylus will leave scratches too and it’s amazing how creative people get when they can’t find the original stylus.

The screen protector is usually a piece of vinyl that has been cut precisely to cover the screen and protect it from any damage. Quality and prices are different depending on what you buy, but even with the cheapest ones, anything is better than nothing. The main difference with some of the cheaper ones is the difficulty in getting them installed correctly so that they don’t have bubbles under the vinyl or worse a wrinkle from a faulty installation. They all come with installation instructions and some of them actually make sense. In short the screen needs to be as clean and dust free as you can get it, because a dust speck you didn’t notice before will stick out as a flaw under the vinyl. It’s like a tiny cookie shrink wrapped on a plate, a bump on the road to a clean installation.

Some protectors can be removed and re-installed and for others it’s one and done. Take your time and try and avoid any bumps on your road to a clean installation.
