The essentials of a fitness routine

A fitness routine is an important part of maintaining a healthy body.  The day to day lifestyle of an average person typically doesn’t include enough cardio exercise.  Purchasing a membership to a fitness studio, utilizing some home gym equipment or getting out and enjoying the great outdoors are all great ways to maintain a healthy and fit body.

Everyone’s health and fitness levels will vary, and for this reason, their minimum fitness requirements will be diversified.  Age and health related issues are also a consideration for anyone researching a fitness plan.  Ideally, the average person should be getting at least 30 minutes of light cardio exercise, t least five times per week.  While this, alone, won’t have tremendous weight loss potential, it will do wonders in helping your heart and lungs to stay fit and fresh.

Diet is also a factor when considering weight loss and heart health.  For anyone considering a fitness plan, following a balanced healthy diet as well, is essential.  A proper assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables should be a staple, along with a variety of unprocessed animal proteins.  Keeping simple carbohydrates and sugars to a minimum should be a given, if your plan is to once again, fit into those pants and skirts hanging in the back of your closet.

If short daily walks are all you’re capable of at this point, then start with that.  Health permitting, you will likely be able to pick up the pace later on, to give heart and lungs a proper workout.  If you are anything like me, having home gym equipment is just a good way to take up basement space and collect dust.  Having a fitness studio membership provides motivation in two areas.  For one, the fact that you are locked into an ongoing payment contract should motivate you to use what you are paying for.  Secondly, a fitness club usually provides a social environment with plenty of activities to participate in.  Having access to cardio training classes, cardio machines, resistance training machines and along with free weights, provides all the tools needed to give your body the full workouts it needs to stay fit and healthy.  The rest is up to you.
