The Xbox 360 Kinect was first debuted during the 2009 E3 show and received quite a bit of press attention for its motion control capabilities that do not utilize a controller, but instead, a person’s body. The Wii revolutionized the way we think about motion controls in games, but the XBox Kinect is set to change this notion yet again.

Even though Wii motion control technology has been around for quite some time, the quality of these controls is less than perfect. This is evidenced by the fact that Nintendo has released a more precise controller addon for their own system. However, more precise controls cannot redeem the Wii when its graphic processing power is not as good as the 360 and it has been relegating to being nothing but a “party games” machine.

Microsoft is looking to step on Nintendo’s toes in this regard, as the Xbox Kinect ventures into party games like dancing and fitness. The appeal of these games to the core group of people how own 360s is still under debate. Most people who own a 360 tend to play hardcore games like first person shooters and role playing games. The appeal of dancing and fitness games to this niche of people is debatable, but Microsoft is hoping to attract people away from the Wii with its Kinect games’ offerings. With no need for extra addons like a balance board or Wii motion plus, it remains to be seen how many people will be persuaded over to the Xbox side.

It is clear that Microsoft is drawing its influence from the Wii, since several games that will be available for Kinect seem to mirror what is already available on the Wii. Dancing games and even animal simulation games will be available on the Kinect, so it seems as though Microsoft will be opening their market to appeal to every one.

In the gaming scene, Nintendo has always been innovative with their console offerings and the Wii is no less than truly innovative. However, Microsoft is compounding on this concept and taking it to the next level so that the Wii may just lose its foothold as the console found in every home. Nintendo will have to think of a new way to market its console if the 360 can do everything the Wii can do, but with high definition graphics. The Kinect was revealed at this year’s E3 and is scheduled to be released in November. Only time will tell if the high definition graphics combined with motion controls will win over the hearts of 360 gamers every where, or if the Wii will retain its crown as the king of motion controls.

The iPod Touch’s wi-fi gets me online most places and if I’m outside of wifi range and really need to I can just check my phone. That said, let’s get back to some of those great iPhone apps. One I can’t live without is the New York Times. In fact, I love reading the NYT so much every day that I’ve toyed with the idea of buying an iPad just so I can read the news on a larger form factor. Of course, the iPad would also mean I’d have much more fun reading Marvel comics – which are available on Marvel’s marvelous iPhone app.

Another app I love is the Priceline application. This is great when I’m traveling. Often I can even just stop in the parking lot of whatever hotel or motel I’m considering and use their wi-fi to check the Priceline Negotiator for rates. This saves me time on finding the cheapest decent place to stay when I’m in a town with dozens of motels near a freeway exit. And if I want to get an even better deal, I can just make a bid and see what comes up. Once I win the bid, I just need to turn the engine off and go inside.

The original psp memory cards were approximately the thickness and size of a chewing gum stick. It was made available in sizes ranging from 4 megabytes to 128 megabytes. Nintendo recently unveiled their latest handheld gaming device, the Nintendo 3DS. The new device will feature improvements over its predecessor such as increased hardware specs, analog control and most importantly, full 3D capabilities.

Shortly after announcing their newest gaming platform, Nintendo released a list of games that will be available to the device. Among these the titles listed, it was revealed that a 3DS version of Paper Mario will be published by the company.

Across multiple formats and hardware, Mario has become Nintendo’s most famous and lucrative icon. The original Paper Mario game was the effort Nintendo to produce a Turn-Based Role-Playing Game featuring Mario and the universe Nintendo has created for him. The series has been given critical praise for adding new game play elements to the standard Turn-Based combat that gamers have been used to.

What separates the Paper Mario games from the typical RPG are the platforming aspects and the charming, paper-based art direction. In these games, it is common for the paper aspect of the title to manifest in different scenarios such as Mario transforming into a paper plane to fly across chasms or turning sideways to slip through narrow passages that only a paper-thin Mario can.

Also present in these games are wit and humor that is surprising to find especially in a title that prominently features cartoonish characters. While the storylines usually involve a simple plot involving the rescue of the always sought after Princess Peach, the writers manage to weave an enjoyable story with endearing characters wrought with smart and witty dialogue.

Thus far, Nintendo has not yet revealed when Paper Mario 3D will be released or even if it will be a completely new story or a port of previous Paper Mario games. What is known, however, is that the new Paper Mario will add 3D effects to fully utilize the capabilities of the 3DS. Because of the graphic style of the paper Mario games, it is likely the new version will still retain 2D characters in a quasi-2D environment with the 3D effect becoming a subtle effect rather than overpowering the 2D-centric nature of the game.

With the expertise of Nintendo when it comes to game play and quality, coupled with the lovable artistic style and humor found in previous Paper Mario games, expect one of the most engrossing and charming RPG titles to make its way to the Nintendo 3DS.
